CITEC REPRESENTS FINLAND AT THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION'S "YOUR FIRST JOB ABROAD" EVENT IN PARIS

Citec has been selected to represent Finland in the European Commission’s “Your First Job Abroad” event in Paris on October 3.

The European Commission has launched the “Your First Job Abroad (YFJA)” initiative to promote free movement of workers within Europe. On October 3, the Commission is arranging a tribute event with around 100 employees and employers from all over Europe. Among all corporate candidates in Finland, Citec was selected by The European Employment Services, EURES, to represent Finland. The event will include seminars and testimonials as well as key note speeches by Annie Gauvin, Director of ANPE (France), and Christoph Maier, European Commission official (DG Employment).

Citec Engineering’s participants at the Paris event are Tânia Costa, Design Engineer, and Katarina Westerén-Hagnäs, Human Resources Manager. Tânia Costa joined Citec Engineering in 2008 and was recruited through the EURES network from Portugal to Finland.

“We are very proud to personify Finnish corporations at this event organized by the European Commission. Citec Engineering has been working actively with EURES for some years. We are very satisfied with the cooperation that helps us recruit engineers to our European offices. Today, we have 16 different nationalities working with us at Citec Engineering”, said Katarina Westerén-Hagnäs, Human Resources Manager at Citec Engineering. “Tânia Costa is a good example of successful recruitments to Finnish companies through EURES. Tânia is a multi-talented engineer, highly educated and speaks several languages fluently”, said Westerén-Hagnäs.

”Citec Engineering fits well into this role being a global company, and as its strong growth requires constant recruitment of skilled people from European countries”, said Katja Helander, EURES Manager in Finland.

The purpose of the EURES network is to promote mobility on the European labour markets by providing advice to job seekers who want to work abroad and to employers who want to recruit workers from abroad. EURES is administered by the European Commission. EURES services consist of a network of more than 700 EURES advisers covering the whole EU/EEA area. In Finland, the EURES advisers work in the employment offices of the largest cities. Their activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

CITEC CONTINUES TO EXPAND OUTSIDE FINLAND

Finnish Citec Engineering, specialised in multi-engineering and consulting services for industry, continues to expand its operations and has opened several new offices abroad. The latest additions are the branch offices in Moscow (Russia), Contrexéville (France) and Chennai (India), the last being an addition to the current subsidiary in Mumbai. In Russia Citec has been granted the specific design licenses needed to engage in engineering business. These investments aim at serving the existing customers better, at the same time as they open up new business opportunities for Citec.

—The industry is doing well and that also shows in our operations, says CEO of Citec Engineering Mr Martin Strand. Citec has during the last years grown to employ over 500 people. We are continuously recruiting new people, not only to the new offices, but especially to India and Finland. At this very moment we have some thirty available jobs in various engineering disciplines and we can offer more as the business grows. At Citec both experienced and newly graduated engineers find exiting assignments, he continues.

CITEC INFORMATION SIGNED COMPANY SPECIFIC COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

The Federation of Professional and Managerial Employees (YTN) and Citec Information Oy Ab have today signed a two-year company specific collective agreement. The agreement concerns the entirety of the Finnish personnel, with some exceptions also including the top management. Citec Information employs about 320 technical information experts in Finland.

The agreement contains several clear improvements for the personnel, among others an extra holiday week yearly after five years of employment and child care services for sick children. A significant benefit is also that work-related telephone calls and travelling for work during free time is compensated for. The agreement also includes a comprehensive working time bank system. The negotiation position of the personnel is strengthened by a shop steward system regulated by the agreement.

The cost effect of the salary increase level in the agreement is 7.5 per cent during two years. The increases include a local portion, which is reserved for developing a new salary system. If an agreement regarding the salary system cannot be reached, that portion will be paid retroactively as a general salary increase.

—We want to be forerunners also in this respect, says CEO Kai Dahl. The starting point was that we are all in the same boat: it was in our interest to build a good work community together with the personnel. In the agreement we have included solutions that benefit both the company and the people working in it. We also know that there will be a shortage of skilled people in the future. One way of committing the personnel is to offer them good employment benefits, he says.

—With the company specific agreement we have created functional rules appropriate for the company and its field of business, which improves the competitive position of the company. This is also important for the personnel. Very positive is also that the company wanted to strengthen the position of the shop steward, says legal adviser Kari Eskola from the Federation of Professional and Managerial Employees (YTN).
