Environment and Sustainability

Citec’s Environmental Sustainability approach

We are committed in improving and maintaining the effectiveness of the Environmental objectives and targets.

Due to the nature of our operations, our direct impact, our so-called footprint, on environmental matters is relatively targeted. The indirect influence through our services, our so-called handprint, is more significant.

We measure our own CO2 emissions. We do not have major environmental risks and we are ISO 14001 certified by Bureau Veritas.

Environmental Policy

Selected sustainability technologies

In line with our vision, we want to help our customers to achieve their strategic business and sustainability targets. We bring technically sustainable solutions to the customer projects through value engineering. Our focus is to have strong capabilities in a specific set of sustainable technologies to support our customers in designing sustainable technologies.

The strategically selected areas from which we also have solid experience are:

  1. Renewable fuels e.g. biogas, green hydrogen,  green ammonia and  green methanol
  2. Carbon capture (using e.g. amines, HPC or membranes) and storage (incl. mineral carbonation)
  3. Renewable energy storage e.g. liquid air energy storage systems

Value engineering

With value engineering our target is to optimise resources needed from the end product perspective.  In our engineering services it means we strive to optimise the use of material and other resources in building, operating and maintaining the end product.

Our own sustainability actions

With our own sustainability and environmental work, we aim to minimise our own carbon footprint through direct and indirect emission reduction. Our guidelines regarding Environmental decisions are set in Citec Environmental policy. In addition we proactively promote UN’s sustainable goals where the most relevant SDGs are Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Industry, Innovation and infrastructure (Goal 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), Climate Action (Goal 13) and Life on Land (Goal 15).

We have implemented relevant target setting and follow-up procedures in our facilities, IT and travelling, where we can directly impact on environment. Also, we continuously monitor environmental matters in our offices like using electricity, sorting waste, recycling furniture and equipment.  Likewise, in business traveling we prefer environmentally friendly ways to travel and utilise remote working policies globally where applicable.

What we measure

We measure the following ESG indicators regarding environmental responsibility and sustainability

  • Office m2/head count
  • Electricity consumption (kWh)
  • Printed paper usage
  • Waste, IT & paper (kg)
  • Train and flight kilometres
  • Commuting CO2 emissions
