Low-floored tram for Škoda Transtech

Project description

The City of Tampere wanted to invest in a sustainable, punctual and comfortable way of getting people around in the growing city. Tramway is an environmentally friendly public transport system, and the trams also reduce the bus traffic in the city which leads to lower emissions and a more sustainable city. Furthermore, the Tampere trams are 100% accessible for wheelchairs and strollers ensuring equal possibilities for smooth and modern transportation.

The new trams were commissioned from our long-term customer Škoda Transtech. We were chosen by Škoda Transtech to the tram project thanks to our long and productive cooperation mode, as well as the solid experience from similar projects such as Jokeri light tram train in Helsinki, Finland.

The low-floored tram design was completed withing budget and timeline and the first part of the new tramway opened for public transport in August 2021. The second part of the tramway will be ready in 2024.
